Bridal Trends for 2010

Friday, October 16th, 2009

As any follower of fashion knows, jewellery and accessories are big news right now. Statement necklaces, hair accessories, fascinators, huge scarfs, snoods and hats are making a style statement on the catwalks and in high street stores. Think big and bold or layered and romantic for Autumn /Winter trends, for both every day style and for your wedding.

In this vein 2010 wedding trends continue in line with much of 2009’s offerings, but with extra emphasis on hair/head adornments. Now is the perfect time to go for something beautiful in your hair to really customise your bridal look. The economic outlook has an impact here too with those in the know predicting personalised details, rather than grandiose pomp, the order of the day.

Short dresses reflecting 50’s and 60’s styles are increasingly popular, and demand continues for asymmetric shoulder gowns. Layers are still going strong with frills and ruffles adding depth and texture. For 2010 it’s all in the details: alongside ruching, bows, back and strap details on dresses, oversized accessories with lashings of pearls, feathers and sparkle are key.

How to add the personal aspect? Wear something you love with confidence and your own sense of style will shine though. If your dress has many of the details mentioned above, hair accessories can help balance your look. A romantic scattering of flowers or a statement headband is all you need. An asymmetric shoulder looks great with a bold pearl bracelet on the opposite wrist.

Playful cocktail rings are also still on trend but with a big sparkler on your ring finger already, perhaps you’re covered?! As always the key to finding your bridal look is to take the time to think about the overall look you want to achieve and use your wedding dress to inform your bridal accessory decisions. Radiance Boutique aims to make selecting those perfect finishing touches simple, but please get in touch if you require any assistance.

Are you a Rock’nRoll Bride?

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Hurray for another wedding obsessive! Radiance Boutique asked an excitable Kat from Rock’nRoll Bride to tell us all about her fabulous blog…

Tell us about the inspiration for your blog?

I started the site after my own wedding in April 2008. I had a ‘planning blog’ before the wedding but after it was over I didn’t really want to give it up.

I decided to evolve the site into a place where I could gather some of my favourite real wedding and photography inspiration. I put all of this gorgeousness together and Rock ‘n Roll Bride was born!

What is a Rock ‘n Roll bride?

Rock ‘n Roll Bride (Noun) A rock ‘n roll bride (or newlywed or someone with a wedding obsession – i.e. moi!) acknowledges that to plan a good wedding, they have to incorporate themselves and plan what they love for their day.

It’s not about being ‘cool’, being a rebel or even thinking of the most unique idea you can, it’s about planning a wedding that reflects you and your partner and declaring your love in your way. You don’t have to be cool. You don’t have to be ‘out-there’, you just have to be you.

What’s the best way to make sure our wedding reflects our personalities?

Do just that! You have to plan what is right for you and incorporate yourself into your day. Just today I was asked advice from a work colleague who always dreamt of having bumper cars at her wedding but now she is actually planning her wedding she was wondering if it was a good idea…would people actually use them? Would they be a huge waste of money? I told her if you want bumper cars then you go for it girl!

Where can I find more inspiration?

www.rocknrollbride.com! I love blogs. Some of my favourite are www.snippetandink.blogspot.com and http://www.onewed.com/blog/savvy-scoop

Bridal Icons Competition -Win Your Wedding Day Accessories

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

This week saw the not so surprising news from Vogue that designer Vivienne Westwood’s knee length version of the wedding dress worn by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City: The Movie sold out in a matter of hours!

With the explosive combination of the dress, the movie and the character of Carrie herself, it’s fair to say this image of Carrie Bradshaw’s wedding dress has reached iconic status and is proving an inspiration to many brides.

Carrie takes her place with other bridal icons such as Audrey Hepburn, whose marriage to Dr Dotti forty years ago is a great example of translating your sense of style to your bridal look, and Grace Kelly, whose timeless elegance has been the envy of brides for over fifty years.

Radiance Boutique might not be able to help you achieve the same Hollywood credentials but can certainly help you create your own bridal style! Opt for statement pieces like Bradshaw and Hepburn –one bold accessory that steals the show. Or create classic style like Kelly with delicate pearl wedding accessories as the finishing touch.

To celebrate these iconic bridal looks Radiance Boutique is offering you the chance to win either statement or classic wedding accessories for your big day. Choose from City Chic statement wedding jewellery set or Classic Elegance wedding jewellery set.

Jewellery for Mother of the Bride

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

With Mothering Sunday just around the corner many brides are turning their attention to gifts to show their appreciation not only on 22nd March but also on their own big day. Radiance Boutique has been happy to play a part this month in answering queries about which jewellery can work well for the Mother of the Bride. Whilst some of us have mums who are happy to wear a more adventurous pearl hair grip or two, a sure fire bet is to opt for the classics. Not only do these pieces work well on the day, they make perfect thank you gifts and can be worn again and again. It’s no surprise then that Radiance Boutique’s classic pearl earrings and knotted pearl bracelet are bestsellers when it comes to gifts for Mothers of the Bride and even just for Mothers Day itself!

If you’re thinking of thank you gifts for other members of your bridal party you’ll find lots of choice available at www.notonthehighstreet.com Radiance Boutique is delighted to have been recently selected to partner with the award winning site who specialise in bringing you the best products from small businesses who, you guessed it, you won’t find on the high street! Advice for Choosing the Perfect Wedding Veil by Ann Guise Silk Veils

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

When it comes to bridal accessories there are so many choices! As well as pondering on your wedding jewellery many of you may be thinking about wearing a veil on your big day. But how do you decide which style of veil is right for you? Ann Guise Silk Veils designs, creates and makes beautiful silk wedding veils for brides all over the world so Radiance Boutique asked Proprietor Ann Guise to share her pearls of wisdom…

Advice for Choosing the Perfect Wedding Veil by Ann Guise Silk Veils

1. A Wedding veil can transform the simplest dress into a stunning Bridal outfit.

2. If you are having a Wedding veil then you need to consider its colour, style, length, number of tiers and the material which it’s made from.

3. Try lots of different styles and lengths of Wedding veil in different fabrics to find the one that best compliments your outfit.

4. Don’t have a heavily patterned Wedding veil with a very ornate dress as one will ‘fight’ with the other.

5. Don’t have a Wedding veil that cuts across detail at the back of the dress. Let the Wedding veil finish below the decoration. Silk tulle is sheer enough to allow decoration to show through.

6. If you are petite, don’t have a veil that swamps you such as a high bouffant veil. It will only make you look smaller

7. Think of adding colour, eg. embroidery to the veil to link in with your bridesmaids and/or bouquet.

8. Remember the Wedding veil is part of the Bridal outfit, not something that is ‘plonked’ on your head as an after thought.

9. If practical, don’t forget to take your veil with you when you have your hair trial.

10. If you are nervous of pressing your veil, ask the store where you bought it if they will steam it a couple of days before the wedding. You can transport it home covered in a pillow case or duvet cover depending on its length.

11. Don’t wear something because you think you should, wear what YOU want.

12. Don’t make a decision about whether to wear a Wedding veil or not until you have tried some on with your dress. A long veil can create a wonderful ‘aura’ around you.

13. Don’t forget you can have a veil made to measure just as you can a dress. You can have the exact length and decoration that YOU want.

14. Your guests should say ‘YOU look stunning’ not ‘your outfit looks stunning’.

15. You only wear a Wedding veil once so make the most of it and enjoy it!!

Bridal Inspiration from the Oscars

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Trust the red carpet to bring out the glamourous side of Hollywood starlets. Forget all the depressing news here and Stateside about the state of the economy and scaling back. When these ladies are going to do something they’re going to do it right!

Not only were the gowns chosen by many of the stars for this years Oscars stunning in their own right, a number of famous faces opted for distinctly bridal looks as well. Who better to take your inspiration from for your own red carpet moment?

Jennifer Aniston, Sarah-Jessica Parker and Penelope Cruz all opted for stunning ivory strapless figure hugging gowns with flowing skirts and beautiful detailing. Jennifer Aniston made her look her own by wearing the front of her hair in a small plait -really adding her own sense of laid back classic style to the look.

Our own Kate Winslet opted for many current trends with her dress incorporating the fashions for layering, detailing and one shoulder styles that are all huge right now. Her colour choice of deep grey was extremely sophisticated and again very of the moment.

Natalie Portman also opted for a fabulous colour choosing a really bright pink. Grey and flashes of bright colours are both hotly tipped bridal trends for this year with many brides using them within their overall themes or as inspiration for their bridesmaids’ looks.

It was really great to see these ladies making such a statement with their looks and more than just a little inspiring! No doubt the heady days of Hollywood glamour will filter through to the bridal market and feature as a key look for 2010. Such styles are in keeping with the recent passion for vintage inspiration.

Some commentators suggest this trend for a bridal inspired look began with Michelle Obama wearing a white chiffon one shoulder Jason Wu gown at the Presidential Inauguration Ball last month. And who are we to argue with a First Lady already renowned for her sense of fashion?!

For further inspiration see Radiance Boutique’s own Hollywood Glamour bridal style or opt for the Hollywood Glamour jewellery set to replicate the red carpet look.
